The Life of Pedro
Pedro was picked from the Animal Welfare League way back in October 1992 as a 10 week old puppy. He was covered in wounds and scars and was apparently not treated well by his previous owner. He was a very naughty and adventurous little puppy and was named Pedro because he had big floppy ears and looked a little like a Mexican when he wore large hats.
He had boundless amounts of energy and loved his daily walks, which have continued through until today. He would dig the biggest holes and he has ripped apart many sprinkler systems. Sometimes he was left on the oval to his devices until one day he dug up an entire cricket pitch!
He was always a very good guard dog and has chased out many a potential intruder. Even today at 16 years and 2 months he still barks at strangers. However, he has always enjoyed the company of cats and at the age of 9 years was joined by another very active and lively 4 week old cattle dog aptly named Sanchez (after the Mexican soccer goalkeeper) due to his amazing ball catching abilities. It brought new life to an aging German Shepherd and play times were frequent.
Now in his twilight years, Pedro still enjoys his daily walks, albeit a little more slowly. He is on numerous medications to aid with his arthritis and heart disease, but he still enjoys every minute of his play and walks. He is required to have blood tests every 3 months to ensure his kidneys and liver are functioning normally so that he is able to take his daily medications.
He is liked by all the staff at Adelaide Animal Hospital and has aged gracefully although on occasions he still digs holes and destroys sprinkler systems.
